Together, We Can Take Action on Hunger in Our Community

This September marks Hunger Action Month, a time to reflect on the needs of our community and how we can work together to make a difference and support our neighbors. According to Feeding America, over one million people face hunger in Michigan, including one in five children. In our local community, the Elk Rapids Community Cupboard has seen a 60% increase in clients seeking assistance. Access to healthy food is essential to cultivating a strong, vibrant, and thriving community.

As a nonprofit food pantry, the Community Cupboard, in partnership with the Northwest Food Coalition and the Farm2Neighbor program, supports individuals and families in the Elk Rapids School District, including the towns of Elk Rapids, Williamsburg, Kewadin, and Rapid City. Open every other week on Tuesday evenings from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm and Saturday mornings from 9:00 am - 11:00 am, Community Cupboard clients are welcome to shop for groceries they need, from meat and fresh fruits and vegetables to hygiene and paper products, all supported through donations.

To help ensure local individuals and families have access to nutritious food and essential household products, gifts of all sizes are welcome to the Elk Rapids Community Cupboard online at www.elkrapidscommunitycupboard.com or by mailing a check to Box 572, Elk Rapids, Michigan, 49629. In addition, donations of non-perishable and non-expired foods and toiletries are accepted 24/7 outside the Cupboard entrance at the corner of Chippewa and Spruce Streets or at Elk Rapids News during working hours.
