Elk Rapids Community Cupboard Now Open Every Other Saturday
The Elk Rapids Community Cupboard will now be open every other Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, starting November 22. These new hours are in addition to existing hours every other week on Tuesdays from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Fridays from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Thanks to feedback from a recent client survey, the Community Cupboard is expanding its hours to ensure greater accessibility.
Founded in 1983, the Community Cupboard is a nonprofit food pantry that’s dedicated to serving individuals and families in the Elk Rapids School District who need support. Eligible households are considered based on financial situation, using the guide of being at or below 200% of the federal poverty line.
Individuals and families seeking assistance are welcome to visit the Community Cupboard at First Presbyterian Church (404 Spruce St., Elk Rapids, MI 49629). For specific grocery schedule dates, visit www.elkrapidscommunitycupboard.com. The Community Cupboard also offers grocery deliveries for those who are unable to visit the food pantry or do not have transportation.
“Having access to nutritious, healthy food is critical to sustaining a thriving community. Individuals and families can move in and out of having this access for any number of reasons,” said Pam Coleman, director of the Elk Rapids Community Cupboard. “To support local individuals and families during these moments or for the longer term, Elk Rapids Community Cupboard is here and ready to assist.”
Available items at the Community Cupboard include chicken, beef, canned tuna, hot dogs, fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms, bread, pasta, canned tomatoes and sauces, cereal, margarine, eggs, toiletries, paper products, and more. These offerings are made possible thanks to donations from individuals, businesses, organizations, local groups, the Northwest Food Coalition, and the Farm2Neighbor program.

Donations of non-perishable and non-expired foods and toiletries are also accepted 24/7 outside the Community Cupboard entrance at the corner of Chippewa and Spruce Streets or at Elk Rapids News during working hours.
